There are 11 Pulteney Old Scholars cricketers who would be happy to never see Dean Chambers bat again.
The Brighton veteran plundered a frazzled Pulteney attack to all parts of the south parklands on Saturday, reaching a career best 158 as the B1 Bombers racked up 8/352 from their 80 overs.
Chambers strolled to the crease to join Tom Fahy (35) with the score about 2/50 and started cautiously before accelerating after tea.
With the score at 3/103 at the break, the elegant right hander combined with skipper Charlie Sutton (45) in a quickfire partnership of more than 100 that included a flurry of boundaries after tea to put the home side on the back foot.
A further partnership with Hamza Rashid Bajwa (37) saw Deano reach his century with about 18 overs left in the day.
But Chambers wasn’t done there. Despite fatigue caused by the sweltering conditions, he continued to score freely before being dismissed in the 79th over as the score ticked beyond 300.
His score of 158 came from 172 balls and included 22 fours and 3 towering sixes.
The team’s total of 8-352 is its highest for about five years and provides a healthy total for the boys to defend on week two at Pulteney this Saturday.
