Brighton girls on top of the world

The Brighton u12 girls are now two games clear of second on the ladder following an excellent team win over their nearest rival Marion Gold.

Brighton won the toss and elected to bat, posting 5 for 92 before the tricky twilight conditions set in.

The batting performance was highlighted by opener Emily Powell's 13 runs of 14 balls, which included three impressive straight drives for 4. Brighton's innings also included solid knocks by Grace Dawson (5 off 14) and Emily Starkey's (4 off 12 ) to keep Marion's best bowler wicketless for the game.

In the field, Brighton restricted Marion to 7 for 88 to seal the win.

Opening bowler Keerthana Evuri started the innings well with a wicket in her first over, finishing the game with impressive figures of 3 for 7 from her two overs. This was closely matched by Emily P's bowling of 2 for 12, which included a wicket in the final over to seal the win.

A special mention to Nicole Denton, whose bowling keeps improving every game coming in from her long run up. Nicole hurt her hand before the game but played on as she didn't want to let the team down.

The team again fielded brilliantly, with Milla Hole running out one of Marion's batters with a direct hit from 20 metres away, and Charli Heinicke throwing from the boundary to the bowlers end allowing Milla to complete another run out.

The win turns the tables on Marion following a convincing loss in their previous encounter, Brighton's only defeat for the season.

With only four games to go, the premiership is almost within reach. Keep up the good work girls.
